Ready, Set, Bake!
For National Baking Week, we presented our students with our very own ‘Bake Off Showstopper’ style challenge!
Students from across all our schools donned their aprons, readied their mixing bowls and got involved. With the support of our colleagues, students were challenged to concoct a baked creation following the theme of ‘Something I learnt in school’.
We encouraged students to get creative, incorporating their general studies as well as their enrichment into their final product. This way they could make a cake to represent a topic they learnt in lessons or topics around their own personal development, such as how they’ve learnt to regulate their own emotions, the sky was the limit!
Working in teams or individually, the students worked hard, selecting their topics, designing, baking and decorating their baked goods. This resulted in an array of spectacular creations and as you can see from the number of entries we received; they were baking up a storm!
We jumbled the entries and presented them to our very own panel of judges – MD of Progress Schools Charlotte Barton, CEO of The Progress Group Jayne Worthington, CFO of The Progress Group Eammon Price. After careful deliberation, the judges awarded Star Baker to Progress Schools Carlisle!
Charlotte Barton, Managing Director of Progress Schools, commented on the challenge:
“I am blown away by the incredible culinary artwork our students have sent in! Their hard work, preparation and skill is evident by these amazing creations. Unfortunately, with our schools spaced out across the UK, we were unable to steal a taste of these delicious treats, but from visuals alone, we know they would taste fantastic. Each and every student should be proud of their achievement. They each followed the theme of the challenge and executed it fantastically and a big congratulations to Carlisle, our Progress Schools Bake Off Winner 2024!”

To celebrate these spectacular creations, Progress Schools Carlisle will be presented with certificates to honour all their hard work and receive a sweet treat of their own, they will be enjoying an afternoon tea!
A big congratulations to all students who got involved, you each gave the judges a very difficult decision to make when selecting the winner.
