Our innovative Community Learning Programme is designed to support young people who are facing significant barriers to education, preventing them from attending a physical school site.
Our dedicated team of Community Teachers, spread across the country, work closely with small groups of students, providing tailored support and guidance. By overcoming challenges and building resilience, we aim to empower these young individuals and pave the way for their reintegration into a physical school setting.
What is a Community Teacher?
A Community Teacher is an innovative educator who provides personalised, high-quality learning to small groups of up to five students. This role is designed to break down barriers to education, offering tailored support that meets each student’s unique needs.
This innovative model aligns with government priorities around inclusion, reducing NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) rates, and improving educational outcomes for vulnerable learners. By taking education directly to those most at risk of disengagement, Community Teachers offer a proven, community-embedded solution that empowers young people, supports families, and relieves pressure on local services.

Education that reaches further…
Curious about the Community Learning Programme? In this video, our Managing Director, Charlotte Barton, breaks down everything you need to know—from the vision behind the initiative to how it supports the united goal of local authorities.
The Community Learning Programme offers a flexible, targeted solution for young people who are disengaged from traditional education. It provides measurable outcomes while aligning with local authority responsibilities and priorities, such as:
Reduces NEET Rates
The programme directly addresses young people who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET). By providing a tailored route back into learning, it helps local authorities meet national targets and improve long-term outcomes for vulnerable cohorts.
Fulfils Statutory Duties
Local authorities are legally responsible for ensuring that every child receives a suitable education. The Community Learning Programme supports this obligation by offering high-quality, alternative provision to those who cannot access a mainstream setting.
Cost-Effective Intervention
Preventing school dropout and disengagement early can reduce the long-term costs associated with social care, youth offending, and adult unemployment. This programme acts as a preventative measure, reducing pressure on wider public services.

Flexible, Scalable Support
With personalised learning plans and the ability to deliver sessions in-home or virtually, the programme adapts to the needs of each individual case. This flexibility ensures rapid deployment, even in complex or remote situations.
Strengthens Multi-Agency Working
Community Teachers collaborate with families, social workers, SEND teams, and other agencies. This joined-up approach helps ensure holistic support around the child and enhances safeguarding and accountability.
Improves Educational Outcomes
By building trust and re-engaging students with education, the programme helps them make academic progress, develop life skills, and prepare for a return to mainstream schooling or transition into further education or training.
Supports Inclusion and Equal Access
The programme embodies inclusive practice by ensuring that no young person is left behind due to barriers beyond their control, reinforcing the local authority’s commitment to equity in education.
